Lately i come across…again there is people asking why there is ads in hostgator user’s cpanel. Some host gator users don’t like to see ads or any extra thing at their control panel. This took me some effort to dig into more details of whats going on.. although i seen that ads on the first day i signup, and already seeing it more than 2 months time, and its not bother me yet!

So, i took another trip to hostgator account, login to cpanel, and capture this screenshot for everyone to see it here. Some new user that haven’t signup hostgator, here is how to advertisement will look like:

Its not look bad at all. This is my comment, and these are useful links. As i seeing and had tried, i clicked on the template monster, and its a “discounted template by template monster”… definately i will use this link when purchase new template from templatemonster.com.

Something more about adbrite is that they offering more service type, and i had seen that they selling text links as well. When i wake up today, had my breakfirst. A nice very fresh morning. And felt sleepy after a long sleep yesterday. I go online, and take a look at google, and search for news and maybe some writting material for my review blogs here. What else, i would like to check my new website ranking in google as well. So, i try to check for “hostgator review“.. which is previously in top 5 ranking. Today, its fall to second page. Which i realised there is definately something wrong. However other keyword for this site is still fine, and not falling.. yet!

What is this, “google sandbox”.. or kind of joke from search engine. Not to panic, i get my brain connected and startup. Check through what changes i carried out for the pass week. I realised here is the list of what i did:

• adding new content to hostgator review blog
• submit this hosting review blog to 700 web directory
• paid for some directory listing as well
• change new wordpress theme for this blog.

I check through all four changes i did above, and conclude that item 4th is the cause of problem. So, i going to fix this. Open up the theme source code, and debugging it for 15 minutes. After all, i realised that the footer text on the theme which is having bgcolor set to light blue. Same time having a front background image with nice shadow effect. And some footer credits note for the original author if the theme design. Here is the problem, the credits text is set to light blue as well. Same color for bgcolor and text is bad thing for google. They think this is keyword spamming. By the way, those are not any keyword that i aim for my site, just that google bot is more sensitive now a day. So, i have to change the text color to white. And the background change to darker blue. This will stop the google sandbox effect. And for the page header, same goes to the menu tab.

For those that having problem to ranked at google, you might need to check this as well. I know this will works, because i having the same problem once at my other website, and its solved the same way.

Lately, there is a friend asking me whats the cpu usage limit for host gator hosting, and also how many simultaneous mysql database connection allowed. A quick search at internet can’t find me any information to help answering it. Following some finding and confirmation had been made:

• Hostgator allow maximum of 25 mysql connection simultaneously. If you having 5 domains, then its 25 connection each domain, and total of 125 connections.
• Hostgator allow maximum of 25% CPU usage limit.

25 simultaneous mysql connection is a lot. Basically a forum with 300-400 active members, would only hit this 25 simultaneous connection once a while. Basically, choose to host optimised forum script. I strongly recommend vbulletion forum, instead of phpBB, IPB, or SMF board.

For the CPU usage, its rarely that you hit the 25% cpu usage. Unless your site is script intensive and require more logic processing or in another word process intensive. Another question is regarding flash download site, will it hit this quota. Very unlikely, because flash file is downloaded to user browser and play from browser. This making use of the bandwidth only.

However when you hit the cpu usage quota or when you hit the usage limit. There is always a trick to run around it. Most commonly suggested tricks is to turn off the awstat that come with your cpanel. Note that awstat and other tracking tools used up quit some number of cpu and mysql connection. By turning this off, you gain more resource for use.

It’s May 2007, and Hostgator is just launching their hostgator blog site, and named it “Gator Crossing”… personally, i don’t get it what it means. But bit humor and funny to see it. The site logo is their gator bang at the road sign and stuck in it. Still bitting something, and i can’t see it clear.

The blog is using wordpress theme from johntp and its design for very huge resolution monitor. My 1024×768, can not fit in the page, and need to do little horizontal scrolling. Custom background and theme to match the hostgator hosting design. I personally think, if the site width is matched to the hostgator homepage width, it will look more comfortable.

I wrote a small note to their welcome posting, and hope for inclusion after being reviewed by moderator. It might be gator jay in charge of the blog. Hope for a great success from hostgator blog team.

I just run a backup copy of the Hostgator hosting settings, files, and database. To do this, just login to hostgator cpanel > backup. To run the full backup of my website, i asked to enter my email address. Because the full backup takes time at server, and the backup path will be sent to my email once ready for downloads.

After few seconds, i received the email from cpanel@hostgatorreview.org and inside contains all the progress and status of the backup. If login information of username and password is not stored in browser catch, then you will be prompt for login information.
