Lately there is increasing request for php version 5, instead of the php version 4. Currently, Hostgator is offering both php version 4 and version 5. By default it will be setup on version 4, and you can contact support to make the upgrade if you need it. Hostgator is carry out some wide upgrading on their server, and this involving upgrading the php and fantastico as well.
If you come across version 4 in the server that you just sign up, and you need to use php version 5 for your script to run properly. You can go to hostgator help centre, login and send a email ticket to support team. They will get it upgrade.
Currently the server that i sitting in are still using version 4.4.4 with mysql version 4.1.21. Which is not upgraded yet, and most probably will be upgraded soon as well.
If come across after upgrading that your script can’t run properly, you need to download the latest script, and do the upgrading. If you were installing it through fantastico, probably fantastico will do the upgrading for you. Save you lots of hassle and works.
Before you upgrading your script or site, its adviced to backup your website. You can manually backup the mysql and websites file, or using the hostgator cpanel site backup to one shot backup all settings and files.
