I take another closer look to hostgator server features, and now i like to know any remote method to connect to the server. The features that i need to look for is SSH or OpenSSH connection kind of thing. I browse to hostgator.com and go through the hostgator hosting features… ok all plan: hatchling, baby or swamp or reseller plan is come with SSH features. And i notice this description as well:

We allow you to use the OpenSSH Protocol (using Jailed Shell) on all of our Shared and Reseller servers to make it easier to develop and debug your files with such text editors as vim and nano. To request OpenSSH access, please E-Mail support with a copy of your photo ID. (No Daemons or Background processes allowed.)

And to get more details, usually ssh can be access from cpanel. So i take another trip to cpanel. Well, i can’t find the setting to enable SSH from cpanel. I have to follow the instruction, email support [at] hostgator.com my photo ID. And ask them to enable this features for my account.

Another question, what is Daemons?
From wiki links here, i learn that Daemons is a computer program that runs in the background, rather than under the direct control of a user; they are usually initiated as processes. Typically daemons have names that end with the letter “d”; for example, syslogd is the daemon that handles the system log or sshd, which handles the incoming SSH connections.
So, background program or any Daemons is not permitted at hostgator account.
