OK… this email freak me. This moment i recalled that there was once saw a similar user review at Internet, stating “hostgator account suspended”, guess they dont follow this verification email correctly to verify their account.
Next, I give hostgator a call. Some IVR voice i can hear it clear, “press 1 for sales..”, ok i pressed one. Then i was forward to real person. Fantastic, I was expecting more prompt … bla bla bla
. ok, i told her that i going to verify my account. She ask for my domain name, and follow by around 15 seconds waiting over phone, and she ask for credit card last 4 digits, and verifying address. She told me, “Sir, your account will be activated in 5 minutes time…” .. ok, solve! and my account is verified.

ID verification is for fraud prevention.
if HG asking for it, customer have to provide it for verification purposes.
there are other web host that doing the same thing, including netfirms hosting for example. Not to worry, if they asking for credit card copy, you can always edit the picture and masked off few digits on the card.

from the email from HG, they giving two option.
1. call them to verify details & identity.
2. scanned copy of photoID such as driving license etc.
calling them would be easier. prepare your details before calling them. including website signup details, domain name registered, email, your name, paypal used, etc.
