Domain name registration is getting cheaper and cheaper and some registrar is offering at wholesale price of $6.50 or lower. Some registrar is selling at $15 or more. If you think it’s the same, think again.
Same as you, I always search for cheaper domain name registration and try to do as much saving as I could. I search through the web, and found five to six domain registrars and compare each of them for the best deal and finally only sign up to them.
If you are a budget domain owner, go ahead and keep doing that. As I getting deeper into the fact behind domain registration, I start to realized that there is different between them. And now I will compare the features and then the price.
Domain name that is selling cheap usually are using single domain nameserver. Even they are giving you two nameserver for the domain. The primary nameserver and the secondary nameserver. And the two server are probably located in the same datacenter, and that’s it. Selling few hundreds domain name, and everyone is pointed to these two servers. Could you imagine the load when you are having 500,000 domain names on them?
When quality become the main concern, you will need to look for domain registration with multiple dns at different location. Yes, there is such solution. For example hostgator domain name is selling at $15 per year, and they are using multiple DNS servers group and redundantly located in few locations. http://www.hostgatorreview.org/hostgator/hostgator-domain/ . Its like having remote backup for your domain name as well.
When you are having redundant backup facilities like this one, your downtime will become minimum. And easily goes beyond industry standard. Now, think again when you look for $1 domain name.

Lately a friend of my was asking how many parked domain is allowed on hostgator web hosting plan. I told him, refer to hosting features at hostgator website. And he come back to me said that its not there, no parked domain stated. Ok, i bit confused and take another look at the hostgator hosting features again. He is right. Its not there.
For your quick reference. Hostgator shared hosting plan with unlimited domains: baby plan, swamp plan, semi-dedicated plan will have unlimited domain and as well unlimited parked domain. Same goes to reseller hosting and dedicated server from hostgator.
I also notice that there is new reseller diamond plan and new dedicated server with conreo processor being released from hostgator lately. Will write more reviews on these next time.

After sign up Hostgator hosting for sometime, now i come across the need to register a new domain name, and hopefully from hostgator itself. So that the domain name is attached here, easy for future maintenance work of mine. I found out that the domain pricing is $15 per domain per year. wow.. thats bit expensive i can say. But wait, i digg deeper and found out that its bit different in quality and sense of greater reliability. Why? here is there answer from Hostgator:
“Most companies offer customers one or two domain servers — one main server, and one for backup. When you register your domain name with hostgator, your domain name is backed by six servers distributed around the U.S. The result? Superior connectivity and reliability.”
This result in greater site visibility, reliability, and more reachable. Trouble with DNS and people can’t find your website is cut to minimum. Guess this makes the $15 worth it. Whats the point of paying $9 when the dns is so weak, and causing downtime most the time, right!
How to purchase domain name from Hostgator? Great, host gator not putting this link for easy access from their homepage, i browse here and there, and still can’t find it. Finally i found this at their knowledgebase, http://www.hostgator.com/domains . Go to this website, and order your new domain name from Hostgator hosting.
Respective domain name pricing from hostgator are:
| .COM |
$15.00 /yr |
| .ORG |
$15.00 /yr |
| .NET |
$15.00 /yr |
| .BIZ |
$19.95 /yr |
| .INFO |
$19.95 /yr |

HostgatorReview.org is hosted at Hostgator.com
Let make it clear, addon domain name is not necessary to do ‘domain transfer’. Domain transfer is transfer of ownership from one registra/person to another. When you wan to add domain (new or existing) to hostgator hosting, eg. baby plan or swamp plan. Simply just make changes to domain NameServer property by pointing to hostgator NS. There is no need to transfer domain to Hostgator
Now i want to add one domain to hostgator plan, what i need to do is login to existing domain control panel, for example godaddy domain name manager. Go to Name Server field, and change the name server field to for example: NS459.HOSTGATOR.COM. Your name server use is the same with your primary domain host gator name server.
This complete the first part, now login to hostgator cpanel x, go to section “addon domains”… and you will see “Current Addon Domains ” … below this section is where the addon new domain begins. Enter the new domain name, assign new folder to this domain at public_html, and assign a new password as well. Finish by clicking the “Add domain”… if you done all right, new domain name will be added to your hostgator plan, can can be view at hostgator cpanel x.

HostgatorReview.org, today I review the domain transfer to hostgator. I wrote these in Extreme clear and easy steps to follow, when you want to transfer existing domain to Hostgator.com. You can transfer domain from any registra: godaddy, registryfly, enom… etc etc.
Let me list out the steps to transfer the domain to hostgator:
- Make sure the domain is registered in current registra for more than 60 days. This is ICANN rules, and transfering domain less than 60 days will be rejected .
- Check the domain registration, and make sure the owner email is your valid email.
- Unlock the domain. You can do this from domain control panel.
- Go to http://www.hostgator.com/domains to initiate the transfer request from hostgator side.
- You will receive email from hostgator to confirm the domain transfer.
- Reply the email according to email instruction.
- Whole transfer process would take 4-5 days to complete.
