Half year back, at a webmaster forum, i come across a thread discussing how the good hosting server influent the Search Engin Optimization (SEO) result. I was doubt about this, and not agreed with that. But today, i realised there is some influent to it.
Myself is a seo professional, not to claim myself an expert yet. Still got many to learn and testing with. Throughout the past half year, and after having more than 7 hosting account with various hosting provider. I start to realised that quality of server/hosting does effect the seo result. Even google pagerank result.
Out of so many hoster that i using, only this hostgator review blog hosted with hostgator is most outstanding. It get listed in search engine within a week time. The server is fast, the DNS is reliable. Uptime is very very good. Overall its an outstanding and solid hosting server. Fast server response and highly availability of websites… search engine just loving it. Fact is, search engine won’t put your site on top ranking if they only manage to craw small number of webpages… due to slow server or server downtime. Right!! what if your website is already packed with visitors, and the spider/robots is here.. the robots would be thingking “what a dam slow server is this? i not going to give it a good rating any how!”
You will not gain quality traffic, if your website is slow to reponse to user. From user behaviour and statistic shows that, users are not likely to wait 5 seconds to wait a page to shows up. If you page take longer than that, they would be close the page and exit, not even the page shown up. You are loosing quality visitors.

When i wake up today, had my breakfirst. A nice very fresh morning. And felt sleepy after a long sleep yesterday. I go online, and take a look at google, and search for news and maybe some writting material for my review blogs here. What else, i would like to check my new website ranking in google as well. So, i try to check for “hostgator review“.. which is previously in top 5 ranking. Today, its fall to second page. Which i realised there is definately something wrong. However other keyword for this site is still fine, and not falling.. yet!
What is this, “google sandbox”.. or kind of joke from search engine. Not to panic, i get my brain connected and startup. Check through what changes i carried out for the pass week. I realised here is the list of what i did:
- adding new content to hostgator review blog
- submit this hosting review blog to 700 web directory
- paid for some directory listing as well
- change new wordpress theme for this blog.
I check through all four changes i did above, and conclude that item 4th is the cause of problem. So, i going to fix this. Open up the theme source code, and debugging it for 15 minutes. After all, i realised that the footer text on the theme which is having bgcolor set to light blue. Same time having a front background image with nice shadow effect. And some footer credits note for the original author if the theme design. Here is the problem, the credits text is set to light blue as well. Same color for bgcolor and text is bad thing for google. They think this is keyword spamming. By the way, those are not any keyword that i aim for my site, just that google bot is more sensitive now a day. So, i have to change the text color to white. And the background change to darker blue. This will stop the google sandbox effect. And for the page header, same goes to the menu tab.
For those that having problem to ranked at google, you might need to check this as well. I know this will works, because i having the same problem once at my other website, and its solved the same way.
