Addon domain name is a feature provided by cpanel that allow you to add domain name to your hosting account, and create a domain storage space to host the website online. It allow you to host multiple websites, having second third and many other domain hosted beside the primary domain name.

When you signup for hostgator hosting, your new hosting account is created with a primary domain name, and this domain name is located at directory “public_html/”. When you want to add addon domain name to your account, you need to make sure the domain DNS already point to hostgator DNS in order to process, and use the cpanel addon domain feature to create new addon domain. When you doing so, a new domain storage or directory being created under the “public_html/” folder.

Note that you will require at least the Hostgator Baby plan to have multiple domain hosting. Hatchling plan only allow one domain hosting, and this plan will not allow additional domain hosting. Upgrade to Baby plan if you want to have this features. As long you have the domain name, you can add it to your Hostgator account and host the website with Hostgator. Next, enter in your domain name to host, choose the username and password for this addon domain, and complete the adding domain process. Simple as that, a new domain had been added into your web hosting account and you can start hosting the website.

For example you name your addon domain “domain1″… its storage directory will be located directly at “public_html/domain1/”… FTP upload all your addon domain’s files here, here is the storage for domain1. And this domain1 will goes online as individual website.
